The Chemical Laboratory building was originally constructed in 1884 according to the design of Herman Bollé. In 2009, the laboratory building was repurposed and transformed into the Library of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, based on the design by Academician Miroslav Begović, Velimir Neidhardt, and Ante Vulin. The comprehensive renovation of the building following the 2020 earthquake includes the reinforcement of the load-bearing structure and the repair of cracks in specific areas, in order to meet the requirements of a modern multimedia and library center.
